                                                      The  Procedure

I Introduction

T. Hello! How are you?

 

II Warming up

T. Look at the board and try to guess the topic of today’s lesson.

(There are pictures on the topic “Food” on the board).

T. You are great. The topic of today’s lesson is “Food”. During the lesson we are going to play lexical games, to work with the words on the topic. We have a lot of work to do. Let’s start.

 

III Phonetical practice

Repeat  after me

  • A good cook never cooks while looking into a cookery book.
  • A cup of coffee not in a proper coffee pot.

 

IV Listening

  1. Listen to the poem and say how many “food words” can you hear.

Poem         THE FOOD I LIKE

On Monday bread and cheese

On Tuesday coca-cola and pizza

Mmm….Yes, please.

On Wednesday it’s spaghetti

And on Thursday eggs and fish

On Friday I like sandwiches

And ice cream on a dish.

But Saturday is my favourite day –

Oh, yes it\s very nice.

On Saturday it’s chicken…

Mmm…salad, bread and rice.

 

  1. Open your books on page 92 Ex.1. Listen to the poem again and match the pictures with the words from the poem. Write the proper letters. (Keys A,B,I,F,G)

V New vocabulary

T. Let’s learn some words on the topic “Food”. Say the words after me:

honey, pancake, cocoa, doughnut, olive oil, ketchup, pickles, spinach, flour, water

T. Let’s check ourselves (pupils read these words from the slides on the computer)

T. Complete the conversation with some or any (each pupil gets a card with the dialogue)

 

Jess. I’m hungry. Let’s make some pancakes!

Patty. Great idea! Have we got anything we need?

Patty. OK. You mix the ingredients. What can we have with the pancakes?

Patty. Yes, I can’t wait to taste them.

 

VII Guessing game

T. Do you know that every country has a traditional dish. And every dish has its own history. Try to guess which country does this dish come from? (на дошці ще з початку уроку було розміщено малюнки  по темі «Їжа», а зараз завдання учнів – поруч з картинкою «Іжа» почепити картку з написом  країни).

Before-reading 

T. Look through the text and say what foods are these stories about

(a sandwich and a hot dog)

Group work

T. I’m going to divide you into two groups “Hot Dogs” and “Sandwiches”. Take your seats at the proper desk. Your task is to read the mixed sentences and sort them out to make a story about your “food word” and after that introduce this food.

Text

  1. Very few people know that a very rich Englishman invented a sandwich. 2.Most people know what a hot dog is. 3. He liked playing cards very much. 4. It’s a sausage in a roll. 5. The long red sausage is called frankfurter. 6. He could spend the whole day and night playing cards. 7. It got its name from the German town Frankfurt. 8. When he was hungry he didn’t want to stop the game. 9. The sausage became very popular. 10. People ate a lot of them during baseball matches. 11. He took a piece of meat and put it between two slices of bread. 12. But it wasn’t easy to have a hot sausage in the hand. 13. In this way it was easier for him to eat and play at the same time. 14. One man, Harry M.Stevens, had an idea! 15. The name of this Englishman was Sandwich. 16. He put frankfurters in long hot bread rolls. 17. It made them easier for people to eat. 18. Since 1762 rich people in restaurants started eating sandwiches too. 19. In 1906 one newspaper published a carton in which there was a long dog in the roll instead of the frankfurter. 20. Today almost every office worker in Great Britain has a sandwich for lunch. 21. People started to call rolls with frankfurters hot dogs.

T. Let’s solve some riddles.

1.It is white and sweat

All children like it to eat.  (ice cream)

2.I’m yellow. I’m made from milk,

You eat me with bread.  (butter)

3. What is white and has a chick inside?  (an egg)

4. Clean, but not water. White , but not snow.

Sweet , but not honey. What is it?  (milk)

5.It is very tasty , red and sweet,

And it is so good to eat.  (an apple)
