“Sport In Our Life” for the 7-th form

Objectives: - to develop reading, writing and communicative skills using active

                     lexical units of the topic;

                   - to practice in listening comprehension;

                   - to develop a positive attitude to sport and physical exercises;

                   - to teach to work in groups.

Equipment: smart board, Power Point Presentation, cards.

 

Procedure:

INTRODUCTION:

    1. Greeting.

  –  Good morning, dear children. I am glad to see you. How are you today?

  • We are fine, thank you.
  • It’s great. By the way, did you do your morning exercises?
  • Yes, we did.
  • Do you regularly do your morning exercises?
  • Certainly we do.
  • Do you think morning exercises are a good way to start your day?

Possible answers;

  • I think morning exercises are a good way to start my day. Morning exercises help me:
  • to be healthy;
  • to be strong and energy;

  –   to be disciplined.

  • Please, look at the blackboard and read the epigraph of our today’s lesson and guess what the topic of our today’s lesson is. “A sound mind in a sound body”
  • The topic of our today’s lesson is “Sport”.
  • Yes, of course. You are right.

 

    2. Aim

  • Today we are going to speak about different kinds of sports and about the place of sports in our daily life. The aims of the lesson are to develop your reading and writing skills, to practice you in listening comprehension, to develop a positive attitude to sport and physical exercises, to teach you to work in groups.

By the end of the lesson you will have been able:

  1. to use words and expressions of the theme “Sport”;
  2. to practice in common conversation about sport;
  3. to work in groups.

        I see you are ready for our lesson. Let’s begin it.

 

3. Warming-up.

  1. Brainstorming
  • What is your association with the word “sport”?

2. Grammar Practice 

  • Usually when we speak about sports and games we use three words ‘play’, ‘go’ and ‘do’. And now listen to me very carefully. It’s just simply.

 We use ‘play’ with ball games or competitive games where we play against another person.

        e.g. play football, play chess

We use ‘go’ with sports ending -ing.

        e.g. go jogging, go wrestling

We use ‘do’ with the other kinds of sports.

             e.g. do yoga, do karate.

And now look at the blackboard and divide sports into three columns.

4. Listening Comprehension

– I’ll give you the cards with the different names of sports then I’ll read some sentences describing this or that kind of sports. You’ll have to listen to them and put the correct number to the words on your cards.

      Game “Guess the word”

  1. A game between two players with rackets and one small ball. (tennis)
  2. It is a very popular game lasts 80 minutes. The players try to score a goal. (football)
  3. The players of this game skate on the ice. They use special sticks and rubber disk. (hockey)
  4. The players of this game bounce the ball on the floor up and down with one hand trying to throw the ball into the basket of the opposite team. (basketball)
  5. This kind of sports is very popular in summer when sportsmen use bicycles. (cycling)
  6. Yana Klochkova goes in for this kind of sports. (swimming)
  7. You can go in for this kind of sports in winter. You have to put something on your feet and take two metal sticks in your hand. (skiing)
  8. Brothers Klychko are the champions of this kind of sports. (boxing)
  9. It’s when someone runs very slowly, especially in the morning. (jogging)
  10.  It’s when you move very slowly, enjoying and breathing in the fresh air. (walking)

5. Reading

 –  These are the texts about four kinds of sports. The text for the first group is about swimming and jogging and the text for the second group is about boating and walking. You have to read them, fill in the table below and answer the questions.

                                                                 TEXT

 Swimming is very good for you. You use all 600 muscles when you swim it is very relaxing. Young and old people can swim. All you need is a swimming costume and pool or sea. Some people also use goggles (special glasses to protect your eyes from water, wind and dust).

 Jogging is slow running. You need good trainers. It is good for you leg muscles. You don’t need a special place. You can jog in the park.
