Приклад запитання: Task 1.Read the text and match the correct heading (A-F) with each paragraph (1-4). There are two extra headings that you do not need to use.1. _A generation gap exists. Teenage children demand more freedom and pocket money, while their parents try to remain in control by not allowing them to do a lot of things they want. Studies show that the main reason for conflict is that parents and teenagers have different expectations. Surprisingly, it is not the teenagers’ need for more independence or financial demands which usually drives their parents mad, it’s their rooms.

Приклад запитання: Read the text. The gift  Oscola McCarty spent more than 75 years washing and ironing other people's clothes. Her lined hands were the evidence of hard work. So, it was a surprise, when Miss McCarty decided to give her entire life savings - $150,000 – to the University of Southern Mississippi. Miss McCarty's gift amazed even those who thought they knew her well.  The customers who have brought their laundry and ironing to her home for more than 75 years included three generations of some families. Initially she said she charged $1.50 to$2 a bundle but with inflation the price rose.  "When I started making $10 a bundle, I began to save money," recollected Miss McCarty, who was born on March 7 1908. "I put it in savings. I never would take any of it out. It just accumulated."  As her savings increased over years, McCarty washed and ironed and lived not a rich life. She never learned to drive and still walks everywhere she goes. When her mother and aunt died, they each left her some money, which she added to her savings. In 1947 her uncle died and left her a modest house in which she still lives.  Until her donation, she was afraid to fly and had only been out of the South once in 50 years. Since then she's travelled all over the country and has been the subject of many interviews and articles. She's even visited the White House and been honoured by the president.  Her donation of her life savings is for students who clearly demonstrate a financial need. "I want to help somebody's child go to college," said the quite spoken McCarty, who left school in sixth grade and has never married or had children. "I just want it to go to someone who will appreciate it and learn. I'm old. I'm not going to live always."  Miss McCarty's generosity inspired many to give money to the university, and contributions came in from all over the country. Her gift has now been more than doubled.  In a recent magazine interview McCarty was asked why she didn't spend the money earned over a lifetime on herself. "I am spending it on myself," she answered smiling.Task 1. True or false( 1-6)1.   Miss McCarty spent more than 65 years washing and ironing clothes.

Приклад запитання: PUBS        а regular customer постійний відвідувач        a pint міра вимірювання рідини, близько 0,5 літра The word "pub" itself is an abbreviation of a "public house" which sounds dull and unemotional. Pubs are very dear to the British people, being a peculiarly English institution. Pubs are famous for their friendly and cosy atmosphere. For many English people the pub is still the centre of their social life. People come to pubs to meet their friends, talk sports, play darts, watch television or just relax and enjoy themselves. They come here to have a good time. On the other hand, many business people go to a pub for a quick drink after work and "talk shop" before going home. There are pubs everywhere in England. A small town of, say, 50,000 inhabitants will have between 50 and 100 pubs, each with its own character. Even a small village usually has its pub. The country pub is the heart of village life. Some of them have there for hundreds of years. There is a fire-place in winter, and you can sit out in the garden in summer. They are welcoming places, with their regular customers usually only too happy to talk to the visitor. The oldest pub in England is "The Trip to Jerusalem". They say it was built in the 12th century.Pubs are part of the British history and that's what makes them unique. Naturally they have a lot of traditions and regulations. Most pubs open at 11 a. m. and close at 11 p. m. Young children cannot go into a pub until they are 14, but even at this age they should be accompanied by an adult. The minimum age for drinking alcohol is 18. It is illegal to sell tobacco to anyone under the age of 16. Pubs sell not only beer and wine but food too. There is now a huge range of bar snacks, and lunches — usually fried fish or sausage and chips, or steak, or the so-called "Ploughman's lunch" which is a large piece of cheese, some bread, some pickles, and an onion. When you order food you are expected to have at least one drink as well. If someone buys you a drink, he will usually expect you to offer later to buy one for him (even if you are not having another drink yourself). If a friend bought you a drink yesterday and you go to a pub together again today, you should start by saying:"Now, it's my round. What are you having?" There are three main kinds of beer: lager (a light coloured beer), bitter (ordinary English beer, which is darker and heavier than lager) and mild (darker and sweeter). In case you don't know the names of the beer in a particular pub, you can say: "A pint of mild, please". Or "A half pint of lager, please". Or "Another bitter, please".Pub is a shortened form from public house.
